Follow hummingbirds as they migrate back to Michigan this spring
One of the most colorful signs of spring in Michigan? The return of ruby-throated hummingbirds.
These fierce little jewel-toned beauties, Michigan’s only native hummingbird, are currently migrating back North across the U.S. after spending the winter in warmer locations like Mexico and Costa Rica.
The spring 2024 map for ruby-throated hummingbirds has been tracking the birds’ migration since late winter. The northernmost sightings so far have been in Missouri, Kentucky and Virginia.
In 2023, Michigan’s first reported ruby-throated hummingbird was observed April 12 in the Lansing area
